MP WELCOMES INQUIRY FINDINGS ON WASTE HANDLING LEAK

12.00.00am GMT Thu 30th Jan 2003

Local MP, John Thurso, commenting on publication today of the UKAEA's findings following their inquiry into the leak that occurred at the Dounreay waste-handling facility last November, said:

"Any incident, however small, is a matter of concern. It is therefore reassuring that UKAEA have, as they promised, conducted a full investigation and made the details public.

"Th incident last November has demonstrated the need for constant vigilance and care in all operations, and I am sure that lessons learnt will be applied. We should not forget, however, that the containment procedures worked properly and that the health of the workers involved was protected by swift and professional action."
