Thurso Welcomes Decision on Kirk Homes

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Wed 1st Oct 2003

Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross MP, John Thurso has expressed his delight at the announcement that both Church of Scotland homes in the Far North - Oversteps in Dornoch and Achvarasdale in Reay - have been secured for the future.

The MP paid tribute to the very constructive relationship into which the Church of Scotland and Highland Council immediately entered when the Kirk's financial difficulties surfaced in June of this year after a nine-month strategic review.

John Thurso said:

"The last four months have been a very worrying time for the residents of Oversteps and Achvarasdale, for their families and friends and, indeed, for the wider community. Oversteps and Achvarasdale are both held in very high esteem and enjoy strong support from across the whole of the North Highlands.

This is wonderful news for us all, not least the very dedicated staff of both homes".
