MP welcomes announcement of hi-tech research project in Golspie

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Tue 7th Oct 2003

Far North MP, John Thurso has given a very warm welcome to the announcement that AEA Technology is to establish a ground-breaking research project in Golspie to develop a facility for the recycling of lithium-ion batteries.

The MP said:

"It is particularly significant that the first enterprise on to the new Golspie Business Park should be an innovative, hi-tech development which has the potential not only to sieze the UK battery recycling market but also capture new markets abroad.

AEA Technology has a proven record in Li-ion battery production at its plant in Thurso and it is very encouraging indeed that the company should again have chosen the North Highlands in which to expand its further research and new operations.

The facility will provide a much-needed boost to the availability of skilled, high quality jobs in the area and a sound base for future expansion."
